Hey, at least ya didn't crash! Better to have a crumby drift than a wrecked car. Keep practicing!

Yeah, the road surface is super rough since it's pretty much abandoned. There was a small patch where there was no dirt at all which caused the rear end to flick back around. Quite annoying.

I'd of not done much better, I'd of for sure not pushed my car that hard (as it is more prone to spin I'm sure), then in the drift I'd of either immediatly fixed it and got straight, or spun. I have a hard time sometimes fighting my natural instinct to keep the car straight, but sometimes I can push it, I need more of a open area where I can try and fight it off a bit, lol

Yeah, front-wheel drive is pretty fun for this. Not true drifting since it's not under power, more just controlled sliding, but it's super easy to get out of the slide just by flooring it a bit more.

When I had a fwd, I honestly couldn't get it sideways.. even in snow, it'd only hold for a second (Chevy Cruze)..though..I did once perfectly drift a corner in a Cobalt simply by going to fast into a turn in rain, lol, and their used to be a pro drifter in a fwd... he couldn't compete hense "used" but he was on a team in Formula D, lol

To be honest, considering the condition of that road, and considering the vehicle - a heavy, FWD American luxo-barge, - I'd say that wasn't too shabby.

That's awesome. There's a government building around here that has an enormous parking lot that's half-paved and half-gravel that's amazing to slide around on but I'm always too paranoid about nearby po-po to do more than one slide.

It's actually lighter than you'd think.

Buick LeSabre 2000: 3591 lbs

2010 Mustang GT: 3518 lbs

My friends and I call it "The V6 Roadsofa"

It was comfortable even going sideways over potholes.

Makes sense, lol, I did alot of accidental drifting at a car club meet and "cruise". The "cruise" was really a high speed run up and down a canyon road in a line of 20+ cars, the road was covered in gravel in some patches though..and the group was mostly M3's, so alot of sideways action, lol.

Man I wish there were more curvy roads around here. Kansas isn't fantastic for anything that's not drag racing.

The beauty of living less then ten minutes from the Colorado Rocky's :D ...though it does come with a price... a little thing called snow..and a little thing called snow comes with cracked and pot holed roads :/

I wholly support this. There are few things more fun than tearing it up on a dirt road. I'm assuming your steering is as numb as any sedan from the 90's, drive something with a bit more feel and i'd be willing to bet you'd feel much more comfortable with the tail out. I can see your arms working and hunting for the right spot to gather it all back up in that video.

Us RWD guys can just go in slow and then give it some poke to bring the tail around on corner exit. With FWD you actually have to commit to the corner (or i suppose use some e brake) on entry to get the rear end out. So more mad props.

Also, your friend is ballsy.

Actually the steering is really light, nimble, and has a lot of feel to it. I'm sawing because the car is twitching back and forth like mad due to the combination of patches of gravel/hard dirt and loads of shallow potholes.

Yep, FWD drifting has to happen at way faster speeds. Sideways at 40mph is kinda sketchy, especially when the ebrake is a ratcheting pedal that has no release lever (push to rachet and lock, push again to release)

Haha you have a pedal e brake? That's terrifying! I guess if it's a car you're used to, you know it'll come back up when asked, but still....I'd be worried it would get stuck on, though i suppose if that happened, it would still be technically possible to make it okay with FWD. Never the less, brave work there.

Man, you are in desperate need of a good hooning spot Itchy! It took me quite a while to not immediately want to correct or worse just hit the brakes when I start to get sideways. I put my first car in the ditch that way, downhill left hander in the dirt. When the tail came out, my brain said "okay now....ease on to the gas, countersteer and...wait...what are you doing foot? I didn't say brakes! OH no!!!"

It took a good session in a snowy parking lot to rid me of that habit, though that was in my awd celica, not the Z. I'm scared to drive the Z in snow. I know, roll your eyes...it's washington man! we never get the white stuff!

I do!! D: and I've been immediately correcting so far..though it did save the Z a few weekends ago from some tree's..I wasn't trying to drift, so glad I did correct, haha, I have done the "oh shit, why am I braking!!" thing in snow with the Z though, only to then let off and ..barely save it. And honestly, with the Z, it makes sense you'd be afraid, I'm used to snow seeing as I've driven in Colorado snow every year since having my license (and will continue to do I'm sure) and the Z can even scare me, just takes a small throttle blip is all it takes to throw the ass out, and then hold on and hope for the best..though...I was on summer tires all winter with the Z.. there's a reason I drove the Beetle most the winter, lol.

I need to drive the car up on ramps so I can disable the ratchet and tighten the cable up a bit.

I never did better than this with my '98 Avalon, which is basically the same car. But my pedal ebrake had a release handle so I could just hold it open and punch it. Only worked in the rain though.

Yeah, that'd work good, possibly even better than a handbrake since it's an automatic.
